Writing from the Continental Congress, Lee recites to a member of the Virginia delegation at the Philadelphia Convention the history of requisitions upon Virginia and analyzes the most advantageous way for compliance. Concludes with this remark: "I am happy to hear that your business in Convention is near a close. You have had a hard time of it. And I hope you will be rewarded with the thanks of this and future generations."
